Section 3
TITLE: Grading Information
Chorus is an academic class and an extracurricular activity and it requires an extra time commitment. Students will be evaluated in 3 areas:
Participation- 30%
Students will receive a grade based on their participation in rehearsals and performances. Participation is more than being present, it is being actively involved and contributing to the rehearsal. Participation points will be awarded for good posture, participating in class discussion and being an aggressive leader.
Classwork- 30%
Each student will need to provide a black, 1/2 inch three ring binder for use as a choral notebook. All daily class work will be kept in this notebook and students will be evaluated on the completeness of their notebook at the end of each grading period. Notebook activities will include exercises in music theory, music literacy and music history. It is the student’s responsibility to maintain their notebook and make-up work as necessary.
Performance- 40%
There will be at least one required performance each nine weeks. It is impossible to recreate a performance for students with excused absences. Students may write a paper on a musical topic of their choice of at least 10 pages handwritten for a maximum of 75 points towards their performance grade.

Each student will be provided with a grade sheet on which they will keep track of their grade along with the director. Parents may ask to see this grade sheet at any time for an update on their student’s progress in chorus.
